Prague – every corner keeps it’s own memory
Prague – every corner keeps it’s own memory
Ok,This is how time-travel machine should work right? As I have never been in 12th century before, I bite myself for reality check, standing in front of an old tower. Old, dirty tower remains there untouched to connect me with the past. They call it the Keeper of the city. I’ve never seen such an old thing before in my life. You pass trough it and you’re on Charles Bridge and entered 13th century already. Five hundred sculptures waving at me and taking my full attention. V’ltava is under. The tiny raindrops on my head can’t stop me enjoying every corner in this early June morning.
I go further and wait. Kafka is here. I guess I’m in the beginning of the 20th century. Opera House with Mozzart’s sculpture. Don Giovanni was first played here. I guess that’s why even the birds sounded like no place before.
As I turn around I’ve noticed those gothic peaks of the buildings seeing from every corner. And true. The city has over 300 castles. The biggest one placed on the hill above is Prasky Hrad. It’s presidential residency now.
Just round the next corner I see other building. As I have never been into 16th century either, but my knowledge by now tells me this is baroque. I could nearly touch it. Yes’ it’s baroque. And yes. I feel like I’m in 16th century.
Big ornamented door called me to step inside. And there… the magic happened. Leaving the time-travel journey, I entered into the best modern shopping center. Feels like It is 21th century inside. Friend told me later, that the town Is protected under UNESCO and no old building should change it’s front. Well done Prague, you hold lessons on historical cultural heritage.
WITCHES AND BABIES
Ok time machine, who ordered babies? I walked into a park and babies sculptures are everywhere. Small glance over the highest TV tower and the babies over it arrests my attention. I guess I’m in the modern times. The babies were initially just a part form exhibition of the countries most popular sculptor David Cerny. But they left them permanent. Well done!
Witches, yeah witches, are also part of the traditional face of Prague. As I saw them everywhere I asked for explanation. The legend says they used to have tradition of burning the witches on 30h of April every year. Yup. They make something to look like witch and put it on stick and burry it to chase the cold weather.
BEER. PARTY. BEER.
Dear time-machine, let’s give the body little rest and have a drink. I dropped at one place with long wooden tables with, no music behind and all I could hear was the sound of beer glasses and people cheering with each other. No one here drink’s coffee, I thought to myself, even it’s still working time. I was right. Who needs a coffee when you have more than 1.000 sorts of homemade brews for the price of a coffee?
Party is everywhere. This city never sleeps. Neither do I. I spent one week with average sleep of two hours per night.
As I dived in my memories from far 2009th I can still feel the morning breeze when I walked out of a bar at 4 o’clock to continue with after party at another place. I can say, let me tell you what happened then, but my time-machine needs fuel. I will refer to the party side some other time. By then, I will feed my nostalgia with pictures from time to time. “My Praguers understand me”.
